The Joy of Learning to Read
My Kumon Journey started when I was 3 years old. My mother enrolled me in the Math Programme and a few months later, I enrolled for the English Programme as well.
- 3 years old
I started with level 7A (recitation) in the English Programme. At that point, I was unable to read much. But I found it easy and enjoyed doing the worksheet and listening to the CD. Listening to the CD has helped me with having good pronunciation. I loved it. Now, I can read short stories much faster than my fellow classmates.
I love to read stories with expressions and can correlate the tenses with nouns and verbs. I am happy as I am always the first one to complete my work even before the teacher finishes writing on the board.
Through Kumon, I have learnt to value time. Finishing a task on time has increased my speed and concentration level. With time, I saw myself becoming responsible in deciding what to do and when to do. I am always sure and confident about my work. I feel so good when I get praised every-day from my teachers, friends and relatives as I am able to read books and narrate stories very fluently.
Learning at Kumon had always been challenging yet fun. It has helped my concentration and focus which in turn, has played to my advantage in learning Kathak (Dance Form). It is my dream to become a dancer.
Initially when I joined, I was not sure whether I would be able to do it or not. All I had to do was to follow the instructions given by my Instructor. There was a time when I took around 30 minutes to complete one worksheet. At that time, I really wanted to quit as I was already much ahead of my fellow classmates. However, my Instructor shared that every-day challenge is a part of Kumon and that it will only make me better and smarter, there was no looking back after that.
Kumon has helped me become an avid reader and to be more confident in knowing that there is nothing I can’t do. All I have to do is believe in myself and anything is possible.
